Overview:

Quinnipiac University invites applications for a Visiting Instructor or Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor (depending on credentials) in Theater with an emphasis in theater design and stagecraft.

This position is a one semester appointment beginning January 2026 and is non-benefit eligible.

In addition, the College of Arts and Sciences offers 31 undergraduate minors, an MS in Molecular and Cell Biology, and the additional accelerated undergraduate/graduate programs: 3+1 and 4+1 BS/MS programs in Molecular and Cell Biology, 3+3 BA or BS/JD degree, 3+1 BA in Data Science/MS or MA in Communications, 3+1 BS in Data Science/MBA, 3+1 BS in Economics/MS in Accounting, Business Analytics, or Journalism or MBA, 3+1 BA in Theater/MBA or MA in Communications, and 3+2 BA or BS/MSW. Students can also complete a 5-year BA/BS and MA in Teaching in the following secondary education fields: Biology, English, History, Math and Spanish.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach two courses: Stagecraft and Understanding Theater.
  • Recruit, mentor, and supervise student designers across scenic, lighting, costume, sound, and props.
  • Serve as Production Manager for all mainstage productions.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Theater Productions and Programing in managing budgets and purchasing for all design areas.
  • Lead technical execution: build, paint, and strike sets; hang, focus, and strike light plots; facilitate sound load-ins and strikes, while ensuring compliance with all shop and production safety standards.
  • Participate in all technical rehearsals.
  • Supervise production elements for student-run theater, non-theater performances (e.g., concerts, dance recitals, guest speakers), and outside rentals in the Theatre Arts Center.
  • Attend monthly faculty meetings for the Department of Visual and Performing Arts
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Chair of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts, in consultation with the Director of Theater Productions and Programing and the Dean.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree is required
  • Master’s degree in an appropriate field of study, or equivalent professional experience

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in theater design, stagecraft, and production management.
    • Prior experience in university theater is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach at the college level
  • Professional experience and/or graduate-level training in Production Management or Technical Direction
  • Proven commitment to collegiality and the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated commitment to cultivating a culture of safety in production environments and training students in best practices.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with individuals from varied backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications

  • ETCP Certification in Theatre Rigging or equivalent professional rigging experience with a demonstrated record of safe rigging practices.
  • OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Safety Training.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification (American Red Cross or equivalent).
