Quinnipiac University seeks a seasoned, strategic, and innovative leader for the position of Vice President for Inclusive Excellence (VPIE). The VPIE will join a university with a trajectory of rapid growth in higher education, committed to advancing inclusive excellence among students, alumni, faculty and staff across every facet of the institution. Reporting to the president, the VPIE will advance efforts to build an even more inclusive and diverse campus community to support the highest quality learning environment. The VPIE will strengthen the University’s many climate and inclusion initiatives, develop data tracking and accountability metrics to measure the progress of ongoing efforts and initiatives around climate, equity, and inclusion, lead creative programming initiatives, identify opportunities to improve campus climate, and further engage the entire community around issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion. The VPIE will also raise funds to support these efforts.

Quinnipiac has taken actionable steps to advance equity, inclusiveness, and social justice as cornerstones of the university. The VPIE will build on these initiatives and existing plans including the 10 Point Plan to Advance Racial Justice and the LGBTQ+ Inclusion Plan. Supervising staff of seven including a Director of Inclusive Excellence and an Assistant Director of Inclusive Excellence, the VPIE champions the University’s strategic plan with a particular focus on the second pillar committed to advancing inclusive excellence. In addition, the VPIE oversees the Office of Title IX, which includes full-time Title IX Coordinator and Title IX Investigator. In addition, the VPIE co-manages the assistant director for student success and leadership, a newly created position with the Provost’s Office designed to help first-generation and diverse students succeed and grow in their Quinnipiac journey.

Responsibilities: |
The successful candidate will be a values-driven and energetic leader with deep understanding of, and demonstrated experience championing issues inherent to inclusion, equity, and diversity within a complex institutional setting. The VPIE will possess the relationship building and operational skills needed to build effective partnerships across campus and various external constituencies and will have experience developing a dynamic culture of equity and inclusion in other organizations. The Office of Inclusive Excellence’s goal is to be embedded in the everyday experience at Quinnipiac, as a campus wide initiative that supports students, faculty and staff. The VPIE must be knowledgeable about equity, inclusion and compliance policies particular to higher education, and have a track record of innovative initiatives related to the field.
Specific Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
- Serve as a senior advisor to the President on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) matters, providing strategic guidance and recommendations.
- Serve as a senior leader on the QU Management Committee and Leadership Council.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive DEI strategy that aligns with the institution's mission and goals.
- Spawn creative programmatic initiatives for students, staff, faculty and alumni that achieve the inclusivity goals of the institution.
- Manage the budget and resources available to Inclusive Excellence initiatives, ensuring they are used effectively to achieve strategic goals.
- Accomplish fundraising that will sustain and grow programs in this area.
Organizational Culture:
- Continue to foster a climate of inclusive excellence by designing initiatives, programs, and resources to support students, faculty and staff employees.
- In partnership with Enrollment Services and Human Resources, develop strategies to recruit and retain a diverse faculty, staff and student body.
- In partnership with HR and the Provost’s office, design and deliver training programs for faculty, staff, and students to enhance cultural competency and awareness.
Compliance and Data Stewardship:
- Ensure the institution complies with relevant laws and regulations related to diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially as it relates to Title IX. Provide requisite reports pertinent to inclusive excellence.
- Leverage data to evaluate and advance institutional goals.
- Monitor and report on the progress of Inclusive Excellence initiative using data and metrics to inform decision-making and demonstrate impact.
- Lead review of current assessments (Diversity surveys/Campus Climate) and initiate future assessments to ensure the institution constantly improves sense of belonging and connectedness for all community members.
Community and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Collaborate with campus partners including HR, Development, Admissions, Student Life, and academic affairs to create strategies to advance attraction, retention and leadership development.
- Build and maintain relationships with diverse communities, both within and outside the institution, to support Inclusive Excellence initiatives.
