The First-Year Seminar (FYS) course at Quinnipiac University is an interdisciplinary seminar that examines a complex problem, an enduring question, or a new idea based on the instructor’s disciplinary or professional expertise. Individuals interested in teaching the course are invited to submit applications electronically. All FYS sections should be intellectually challenging but appropriate to first-year students coming from all of the schools and college of QU. The course should draw upon disciplinary sources but should be more general than an introductory course in a specific discipline (e.g., Media Studies 101 or Sociology 101). And every course should include multiple (ideally two or three) disciplinary perspectives on the complex problem, enduring question, or new idea that the course explores. We are especially interested in FYS sections that explore interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary problems, questions, or ideas related to STEM fields, including environmental studies, nursing, and health sciences.
