Overview:

The School of Business at Quinnipiac University invites applications for one full-time tenure-track position as Assistant or Associate Professor of Accounting with an expected start date of Fall 2025. Priority will be given to applicants with backgrounds in taxation, personal financial planning, and managerial/cost accounting. The successful candidate will foster a student-centered environment by delivering engaging and innovative coursework; being accessible, approachable, and relatable to students; and displaying passion, energy, and excitement for the profession and for our students. 

Accounting faculty are expected to teach in both traditional classroom and online modalities at the graduate and undergraduate levels.  This position is part of the Accounting Department’s initiative to create tracks that support the new discipline sections of the CPA exam and that provide our students with more diverse coursework to build a strong financial foundation for themselves and their potential future clients and organizations.

The Accounting Department faculty have varied research interests that support the university’s mission. Many Department faculty members collaborate on research with other Department members and other colleagues at the university. The Accounting Department faculty are dedicated educators that support student learning inside and outside the classroom.  

About the Department: 

 

The accounting department offers B.S. and M.S. degrees in accounting. The department also supports a variety of graduate courses in the MBA and Professional MBA programs. Our undergraduate and graduate programs prepare students for the CPA and other professional certifications exams as well as success in a variety of careers in the public and private sectors. Students gain valuable exposure to the accounting profession through internships, our VITA tax preparation program, and interactions with professionals at events hosted by our Gold Status Beta Alpha Psi chapter and Accounting Society.

Accounting faculty are dedicated to both teaching excellence and scholarly inquiry. Faculty in the accounting department have diverse research interests, spanning accounting education, financial accounting, auditing, personal financial planning, data analytics, healthcare, governmental/ nonprofit accounting, and more. We value high-quality teaching and collaborative research among department faculty.

Looking to the future, in addition to preparing students for the CPA and CMA examinations, we have begun the design of new specializations, certifications, and/or stackable credentials (e.g., data analytics, tax compliance and planning, and personal financial planning). Responsibilities:

  • Develop and teach high quality undergraduate and graduate courses on-ground and online in various areas of accounting.
  • Teach three courses per semester (spring and fall).
  • Prepare and deliver active learning course content and engaging class activities; compile, administer, and grade assignments/ examinations. 
  • Conduct research and publish in high-quality journals. 
  • Perform active engagement in service to the Department, School, and University. 
  • Support recruitment, mentoring, and retention of students, including through student advising. 
  • Participate in workshops, retreats, and other relevant activities.  
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and management skills are required. 
  • Collaborate with other members of the Quinnipiac community to support the University’s mission and vision.  
  • Help to build external partnerships that foster internships, job placement, guest speakers, and curricular development.

Education Requirements:

  • A Ph.D. in accounting from an AACSB accredited university, JD/LLM in Taxation, or other relevant terminal degree from a research oriented program. ABD candidates with a clear completion timeline will be considered.  

Qualifications:

  • Evidence of research potential (e.g., published papers, conference presentations, and working papers)
  • Demonstrate the potential for excellence of teaching effectiveness in classroom environments for undergraduate and/or graduate courses
  • A relevant professional certification (e.g., CPA, CMA, CFP®) is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse groups/populations
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to a supportive and collegial work environment
  • Demonstrated support for inclusive excellence
