Overview:

The School of Communications at Quinnipiac University seeks applicants for adjunct faculty appointments in the department of Film, Television and Media Arts. The department seeks candidates with a background in film history, theory and criticism to teach beginning, intermediate, and upper-level courses in film studies.

About the Film, Television and Media Arts Department:

 

The Department offers BA and BFA degrees in Film, Television and Media Arts and an MA in Producing Film and Television.

The strength of our film program is an integrated, collaborative curriculum that provides a foundation in all aspects of filmmaking, including: screenwriting, directing, producing, cinematography, sound acquisition, editing, post-production workflows, as well as history, theory, and film analysis.

This student-centered department has a strong sense of community, and the faculty are highly collaborative in teaching, research and creative endeavors.

About the Ed McMahon Communications Center:

The Ed McMahon Communications Center is a first-rate production facility equipped with industry standard technology and equipment for hands-on training in all aspects of film, television, journalism and multimedia production. Highlights of the center include a three-camera HDTV studio, a professional-quality audio production suite, and several 4K editing suites. Labs and classrooms are ideal for independent and group-based work, as well as a variety of multidisciplinary projects.

The Center’s 80 high-performance workstations enable students to work with numerous multimedia and imaging applications, such as Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve, Illustrator, Flash, Dreamweaver and other industry-standard software including Final Draft, Movie Magic Scheduling and Budgeting.

An extensive equipment loan room makes professional caliber video and audio recording equipment and support gear available for use in the field. An inventory of over 100 digital cameras include Sony A73s, Canon EOSRs, Canon C-100s, Sony FS5s and Red Dragon Scarlet Ws.

We balance hands-on skills training with instruction in the liberal arts to prepare students for exciting and rewarding careers in advertising and integrated communications; communications/media studies; film, television and media arts; graphic and interactive design; journalism; and public relations. Seeking instructors for the following courses:

  • FTM 102: Understanding Film
  • FTM 240: Analysis of the Moving Image
  • FTM 320: History of Film I
  • FTM 322: History of Film II
  • FTM 450: Senior Seminar Special Topics (Recent Topics Include: Social Impact Entertainment, Hollywood on Hollywood, Cinema of WWII, Be Afraid! Horror’s Social Commentary, On Directing, etc.)

Education Requirements
  • Required qualifications include MA in film studies, or related field
  • Preferred qualifications include PhD in film studies or related field, or ABD

Qualifications:

  • University-level teaching experience is required. Additional experience in delivering hybrid or online courses highly valued
  • Knowledge and interest in world cinema and transnational cinematic movements
  • Knowledge and interest in intersectional analysis of race, gender, class, sexuality, and ability in film and other media arts

  • The ideal candidate will possess a commitment to inclusive excellence and keen awareness of the current issues around inclusion and equity within film studies and the film and television industry

  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with individuals from varied backgrounds
