Overview:

The Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Quinnipiac University invites applications for a full-time Assistant Teaching Professor of Music, beginning in Fall 2025. We seek a dynamic and experienced educator to teach music theory for Music Minors and a variety of lecture-based courses that fulfill the university’s general education fine arts requirement. The candidate must have experience teaching both private music lessons and classroom-based courses.

The ideal candidate will be an accomplished performing musician with a current record of national and international performances. Experience in arts administration and the ability to serve as Artistic Director of the Frank J. Natale Concert Series are required.

Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, student advising, and university service, including active participation on departmental and university-wide committees. An interdisciplinary mindset and a willingness to collaborate across programs in the department, college, and university are essential.

Responsibilities:

  • The successful candidate will be expected to teach:
    • Music theory classes
    • Private music lessons, including piano lessons
    • Music appreciation courses, as needed
  • Additional responsibilities will include
    • Serving as Artistic Director of the of the Frank J. Natale Concert Series
    • Overseeing the maintenance and tuning of the university's pianos
    • Performing additional academic service, as needed

Education Requirements:

  • A terminal degree in music (required by the time of appointment)

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching music theory, performance, and general education
  • Evidence of an active performance career
  • Experience in arts administration and concert programming
  • Commitment to collaborative, student-centered teaching in a liberal arts context
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with individuals from varied backgrounds
