The College of Arts & Science at Quinnipiac University invites applications for the position of Assistant Dean for Academic Operations. This is an exciting time to join the College as we launch a new strategic plan, move into a new building, and roll out a series of new academic programs that have contributed to increasing enrollments. The College of Arts & Sciences is the academic heart and intellectual core of Quinnipiac University, serving all undergraduate students and many graduate students.
The Assistant Dean of Academic Operations is a 12-month staff position that reports to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Strategic Initiatives, dedicated to optimizing academic scheduling, course offerings, and part-time faculty management within the College of Arts & Sciences. This role ensures that scheduling and resource allocation align with student needs, institutional priorities, and compliance with university policies and accreditation standards. The Assistant Dean also focuses on improving scheduling efficiency, maintaining adherence to workload policies, and integrating enrollment projections to guide data-informed decisions.
Responsibilities include managing classroom assignments to maximize utilization, identifying opportunities to streamline processes, and supporting curricular updates to meet evolving academic demands. The Assistant Dean also plays a pivotal role in coordinating faculty development initiatives, preparing detailed reports on scheduling efficiency, faculty workloads, and enrollment trends, and supporting strategic planning. Additionally, the role involves assisting with internal and external communication and collaborating on special projects and academic events, such as the CAS Student Symposium. This appointment is expected to begin as early as April 1, or as soon as possible thereafter, and no later than June 30.
Qualified candidates are expected to live or relocate within a reasonable daily commuting distance of Quinnipiac’s Mount Carmel campus upon hire. While this is a primarily in-person position, the college currently allows one remote workday per week.

Responsibilities: |
- Develop and oversee the college’s academic course schedule consisting of more than 2,000 course sections a year, in collaboration with department chairs and program directors
- Optimize course offerings to support enrollment management, resource efficiency, and compliance with institutional goals
- Manage classroom assignments, resolve scheduling conflicts, and ensure efficient utilization of facilities
- Coordinate the hiring, onboarding, and evaluation of part-time faculty, maintaining a pool of qualified adjunct instructors and aligning hiring decisions with enrollment trends and course demand
- Prepare and responsibly manage a multi-million-dollar instructional budget
- Ensure part-time faculty have necessary resources, including course materials and access to facilities, to deliver high-quality instruction
- Collaborate with Human Resources and Academic Affairs on part-time hiring policies, practices, and compliance with relevant regulations
- Manage updates to the college’s portion of the university catalog, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and consistency with approved curriculum changes
- Serve as a liaison between the college and the registrar’s office for scheduling updates
- Support the implementation of new programs, courses, and curricular revisions, ensuring efficient integration into the academic schedule
- Analyze enrollment trends and course demand to inform strategic scheduling decisions and part-time faculty hiring needs
- Prepare reports on course utilization, scheduling efficiency, and faculty workloads, providing data-driven insights to support strategic planning
- Ensure adherence to institutional policies regarding academic scheduling, course loads, catalog management, and resource allocation
- Support internal and external communication efforts, including contributing to the weekly college newsletter and disseminating updates to promote academic initiatives, events, and achievement
- Communicate updates and deadlines related to scheduling, hiring, and catalog changes to relevant stakeholders in a timely and clear manner
- Provide administrative support for academic initiatives and special projects as assigned by the Dean or Associate Deans
- Coordinate faculty lunch-and-learn sessions and other faculty development initiatives to promote professional growth and collaboration
- Lead the planning and coordination of the CAS Student Symposium in collaboration with the faculty steering committee
- Teach one course a year if appropriate given the candidate’s academic and professional background
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Dean

Qualifications: |
- At least five years of related professional experience with increasing levels of responsibility
- Strong business and financial acumen
- Moderate to advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
- Experience working collaboratively on a management team
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Good judgment and can make decisions independently as well as collaboratively
- Interest in working with individuals and groups representing a wide range of academic and administrative interests
- Attention to detail and organizational skills
- Experience managing academic schedules and faculty teaching assignments or demonstrated experience in operations management
- Demonstrated ability to optimize systems, implement creative approaches to problem solving, while upholding the values of the college and its emphasis on academic quality
- Experience managing complex budgets
- Ability to produce high-quality documents and reports for senior leadership
- Skilled at organizing events and faculty initiatives that support a vibrant and thriving academic community
- Highly collaborative individual who listens well and supports our academic units in delivering a robust yet efficient schedule of courses
- Available some nights and weekends for college events
