Quinnipiac University seeks a motivated, results-oriented, and highly collaborative professional to join the institution as the Assistant Director of Recreation in the Competitive Sports area. Reporting to the Associate Director of Recreation who oversees competitive sports, the successful candidate will manage the day-to-day operations of the intramural sports program and assist with the overall management of the Competitive Sports, Recreational Clubs, and Club Sports programs. The Assistant Director will also support budget management, safety and risk management procedures, and special events within the Office of Recreation. Additionally, they will cover Open Houses and other yield/orientation events for the department. |

Responsibilities: |
- Create, implement, and manage the day-to-day operations of all intramural sport programs, including various leagues and tournaments throughout the academic year.
- Collaborate with the Associate Director to oversee the overall management, policy enforcement, and supervision of the Competitive Sports programs.
- Manage the inventory, storage, repair, maintenance, and replacement plan for competitive sports equipment and apparel.
- Assist in recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising Competitive Sports student staff, including officials and gameday attendants.
- Utilize NIRSA student and professional development opportunities, such as NIRSA-sponsored extramural tournaments, NIRSA Championship Series events, and other special events related to competitive sports.
- Support special events within the Office of Recreation.
- Collaborate in developing and implementing safety and risk management procedures for Competitive Sports.
- Assist the Associate Director in the overall management of the Club Sport program.
- Coordinate schedule requests for practices, meets, tournaments, and events for Club Sports.
- Assist in the development and management of the annual budget.
- Coordinate Club Sport travel for local, regional, and national trips in partnership with the Associate Director.
- Assist in planning and executing regular Club Sport Officer trainings.
- Be on-site for various Club, Recreational, and Intramural sporting events, which may occur at night and on weekends, requiring a flexible schedule.
- Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote intramural and club sports programs.
- Build relationships with external partners and sponsors to support program growth and development.
- Conduct regular assessments to gather feedback and improve program offerings.
- Ensure compliance with university policies and procedures, as well as local, state, and federal regulations.
- Provide mentorship and leadership development opportunities for student staff.
- Coordinate with other campus areas to integrate recreation programs into broader campus initiatives.
- Organize and lead training workshops for student staff on topics such as leadership, conflict resolution, and customer service.
- Cover Open Houses and other yield/orientation events for the Office of Recreation

Education Requirements: |
- Bachelor's degree required
- Master's degree in student affairs, exercise science, physical education, kinesiology, recreation administration, sport management, leisure studies, or comparable area preferred

Qualifications: |
- 1-3 years of experience in recreation, campus fitness, sports or student affairs required. Graduate assistantship may count towards years of experience where applicable
- A demonstrated track record of creative problem solving and a high-level of productivity and performance
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, budget management, supervision, strategic thinking, and organizational abilities/skills
- Officiating experience in basketball, hockey, flag football, and/or soccer is helpful
- Demonstrated capacity to produce results through a collaborative, team-oriented approach
- High degree of self-motivation, persistence, and follow-through
- An ability to engage students in the learning process through a high level of personal contact
- A positive attitude with high standards of personal integrity and professional competence
- Ability and willingness to work within evening and weekend hours as needed
- Experience with employee scheduling software (e.g., WhenToWork, SubItUp, etc.) and/or with sport scheduling software (e.g., IMLeagues, Fusion, etc.) is helpful
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications (or ability to obtain the certifications upon hire)
- NIRSA member preferred
- Must be committed to a student-centered approach, adaptable to changing institutional needs and priorities, and possess excellent organizational, communication, and administrative skills
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and a commitment to diversity and inclusion
