Overview:

Quinnipiac University's School of Law is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our institution as the Co-Director for Academic Success and Bar Support. This position is integral to our commitment to ensuring the academic success of our students and supporting them in achieving success with the bar passage.

The Co-Director for Academic Success and Bar Support will work to support students in their academic activities within the Law School. The Co-Director collaborates with the Law School Registrar, the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, and their fellow Co-Director to design and implement all aspects of the academic success and bar support functions within the School of Law. This position assists in identifying and working with students in need of academic intervention, particularly those who are at risk of poor performance either in the curriculum or on the bar exam. The position also contributes to a growing academic success program through direct student work, curricular support, student programming, and other initiatives to improve bar passage and student outcomes.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct service to students in the academic success program to help diagnose and support students who are at academic risk as measured by their first semester and first year grades
  • Provide ongoing support to the academic and bar preparation programs and curricula.
  • Teach or co-teach workshops and classes in support of academic and bar support efforts
  • Maintain, analyze, and produce requested reports on bar examination results and the effectiveness of the law school’s bar preparation program
  • Assist the School of Law with efforts to build student community, maximize student satisfaction, and retain students.
  • In cooperation with the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, evaluate the effectiveness of the School of Law’s overall bar success system in a manner that best leverages faculty and alumni involvement in a law school shifting toward more experiential learning.
  • Collaborate with the fellow Co-Director to ensure that students receive mentorship and support throughout their law school journey
  • Support the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and the Law School Registrar as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
Education Requirements:
  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.). required
  • Additional advanced degree in Education or Educational Counseling preferred
Qualifications:
  • A minimum of three years of experience in an institution of higher education, preferably at an ABA accredited Law School, is desirable
  • Legal teaching experience is highly beneficial
  • Previous experience in academic support, bar exam support, or a related field within a law school setting is preferred
  • Familiarity with legal education and the challenges law students face
  • Strong teaching and counseling skills to effectively assist students in improving academic performance and preparing for the bar exam
  • Ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly and supportively
  • Administrative skills to support the day-to-day operations of the office
  • Proficiency in data analysis to assess program effectiveness and identify areas for improvement
  • Ability to use data-driven insights to inform decision-making and enhance program outcomes
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and students
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success and a student-centered approach to academic support
  • Empathy and the ability to relate to the diverse needs of law students
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development in the fields of academic support, legal education, and counseling
  • Willingness to stay informed about best practices and emerging trends in the legal education landscape
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively
  • Attention to detail in program planning, execution, and record-keeping
  • Willingness to work outside of normal business hours to accommodate students’ schedules
  • A commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in legal education and fostering an inclusive learning environment
