Overview:

Quinnipiac University's School of Health Sciences invites applications for an Academic Advisor to support undergraduate students within the School of Health Sciences. In this role,  you will guide students through their academic journey, providing personalized advising, mentorship, and resources that empower them to achieve their educational and professional goals in health-related fields.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of future healthcare professionals while working in a collaborative and dynamic university environment.

This is a full-time, 12-month administrative position.

About the School/Program:

The School of Health Sciences is home to approximately 100 full-time faculty and staff and enrolls over 2,500 students across 30 graduate and undergraduate academic programs. The school is organized into seven departments offering undergraduate majors in biomedical sciences, diagnostic medical sonography, exercise science, health science studies, medical microbiology & immunology and radiologic sciences, and graduate programs in advanced medical imagining & leadership, biomedical sciences, cardiovascular perfusion, occupational therapy, pathologists’ assistant, physician assistant, physical therapy and social work. The school also offers entry-level dual-degrees for occupational therapy, physician assistant and physical therapy. Our school provides excellence in education, scholarship, and community engagement with a mission grounded in our commitment to producing skilled and compassionate graduates, pioneering research and partnering with our communities to advance the health and well-being of all individuals. Responsibilities:

  • Support mission, vision, core values, and strategic plans of Quinnipiac University, its School of Health Sciences
  • Promote student academic success, retention, and persistence
  • Maintains assigned caseloads of advisees and serve as a resource for students exploring a career in health-related fields
  • Advises students in the development of academic plans of study
  • Works closely with other advisors, registrar, program directors, department chairs and the faculty to provide timely and accurate information to students on various health-related fields and course/degree options
  • Monitors progress and retention of assigned advisees
  • Refers students to the appropriate academic resources
  • Assists with advising of transfer/change of major students
  • Provides support for registration, first year student orientation, and admissions-related events
  • Supports students with the application process for graduate/professional school
  • Supports the University’s inclusive excellence mission

 

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Master’s degree in higher education, counseling, student affairs, public health, or a related field preferred

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of one year of experience in academic advising or related academic functions in higher education
  • Demonstrated ability to work with students, faculty and staff from various backgrounds
  • Effective verbal and written communication and teamwork skills
  • Evidence of understanding the issues faced by college students
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to supporting student success, retention, and academic achievement

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to work with and adapt to software and technology that are used in the support of university practices, such as Self Service, Colleague, Stellic, etc.
  • Member of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) or National Association for Advisors of Health Professions (NAAHP)
