Overview: Quinnipiac University's invites applications for an Associate Director of Student Engagement to help shape a vibrant and inclusive campus community through leadership development, student organizations, and orientation programs.

In this highly visible leadership role, you will inspire student involvement by advising student leaders and organizations, fostering leadership development, and creating opportunities that enhance the overall student experience. You will oversee student organization operations, provide strategic guidance to branches of the Student Government Association, and partner with colleagues across the University to develop engaging programs that cultivate belonging, leadership, and community.

As a key member of the Office of Student Engagement leadership team, you will also direct the University's Orientation Leader program, overseeing the recruitment, training, and supervision of student leaders who play a vital role in welcoming new students to Quinnipiac. Working collaboratively with campus partners, you will contribute to initiatives that promote student success, engagement, and institutional pride while helping to advance the University's mission and strategic priorities.

Responsibilities:

Administration, Supervision, & Advising

  • Provides supervision, evaluation, and coaching to the Assistant Director of Student Engagement, a part-time Finance Assistant, and graduate assistants
  • Approves expenditures and manages assigned budgets and related fiscal tasks in accordance with university policy
  • Advises branches of the Student Government Association (SGA) in partnership with the Director of Student Engagement, supports individual student media organizations, and serves in a management role for Student Engagement in the Director’s absence

 

Student Organization Oversight

  • Serves as Chair of the Student Organization Event Management Committee and approves student organization events in accordance with Campus Life philosophy and university practices
  • Develops, administers, and reviews key student organization systems and policies, including recognition/reactivation, Bobcat Central, and leadership and event training for members, officers, and advisors
  • Supervises the OrgFinance team, supporting organizations with budgeting, spending, and financial management/reporting in line with university policies
  • Develops annual involvement opportunities each semester, and serves as liaison to service, spiritual, cultural, and media organizations to ensure consistent standards
  • Collaborates with the Office of Belonging on the Multicultural Student Leadership Council, and supports cultural, identity, and spiritual organizations through retreats, meetings, and workshops

 

Student Leadership Development

  • Conceives, develops, and presents leadership development programs aligned with Campus Life philosophy, and supports similar efforts across Campus Life
  • Supports the Assistant Vice President in promoting leadership development through advocacy and role-modeling

 

Marketing and Communications

  • Coordinates OSE marketing efforts, including the Bobcat Bulletin and Instagram account, and liaises with the Marketing and Communications team
  • Communicates participation, demographic, and standing data for organizations and events, and updates the website, brochures, and forms on an established timeline

 

Orientation Program

  • Oversees recruitment, selection, training, and supervision of Orientation Leaders, providing mentorship and fostering a supportive, engaging environment
  • Works with Development & Alumni Affairs on family-related initiatives, and collaborates with the Assistant Director on Orientation Leader trainings

 

Additional Duties

  • Provides strategic vision and oversight to multiple integrated areas impacting student life
  • Supports University and divisional strategic initiatives, and represents the Division of Student Affairs on assigned university-wide committees
  • Attends and/or facilitates trainings, retreats, summits, and planning sessions as needed, which may include some night and weekend work based on annual cycles
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Education Requirements:
  • Master's degree is required.
Qualifications:
  • 5-7 years of professional experience in working within Student Affairs in a higher education environment
  • Ability to understand and articulate the critical importance around practices of inclusive excellence, justice, and diversity as it relates to higher education
  • A demonstrated track record of creative problem solving and high productivity, along with excellent conflict resolution, judgment, and crisis management skills
  • Demonstrates strong leadership, program planning, and organizational skills to oversee a multi-faceted area providing a wide range of student services
  • A commitment and ability to engage students in the learning process through intentional programs and a high level of personal contact is a must
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with individuals from varied backgrounds.
