Overview:

Quinnipiac University's invites applications for an Academic Advisor in the School of Nursing.  Reporting to the assistant dean for academic services, the Academic Advisor plays  a central role in supporting undergraduate and graduate nursing students as they navigate their academic path. You'll work closely with faculty, staff, and students to ensure academic success while maintaining the high standards that make Quinnipiac's nursing program exception.

Responsibilities:
  • Manages an assigned caseload of 1st and 2nd year advisees and serves as a resource for students
  • Educates and guides students through the general education component of the nursing curriculum
  • Works closely with other advisors, registrar, program directors, department chairs, and faculty to provide timely and accurate information to students on course options
  • Monitors progress and retention of assigned advisees
  • Refers students to the appropriate academic resources
  • Assists with advising of transfer/change of major students
  • Provides support for registration, first year student retention, and admissions related events
  • Supports the university’s inclusive excellence mission
  • Supports the School of Nursing’s strategic initiatives
  • Maintains database and documentation of advising sessions
  • Collaborates with assistant and associate dean regarding student roster and attrition data
  • Participate in school and university recruitment events
  • May support teaching in first-year seminar and NUR 201
  • Other projects as assigned
Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required
Qualifications:
  • Previous experience advising students in higher education
  • Ability to organize time and maintain accurate documentation of advising meetings
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication, including public presentations
  • Knowledge of nursing or health-related fields
  • Evidence of understanding the issues faced by college students
  • Ability to work with and adapt to software and technology that are used in the support of university practices
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with individuals from varied backgrounds.
