Overview:

The Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University is seeking a collaborative, analytical finance leader who thrives in a dynamic academic environment and is committed to the mission, values, and student‑centered culture of Quinnipiac University as the Director of Finance. In this role you will  provide strategic and operational leadership for all financial functions within the School of Medicine. As a key member of our administrative leadership team, you will oversee budgeting, accounting, forecasting, and financial reporting to ensure responsible stewardship and support the continued growth of our learning community. 

The ideal candidate is a highly detail‑oriented and collaborative finance professional with strong budgeting and financial management skills. This individual will play a central role in developing and managing the School of Medicine’s budget, monitoring financial activity, and supporting unit leaders throughout their budgeting processes.


Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Administration and Strategic Planning—and partnering closely with the Dean and university finance teams—you will deliver insights that strengthen decision‑making, enhance resource planning, and advance our mission of preparing the next generation of compassionate, skilled physicians.

Responsibilities:

 

Financial Operations & Budget Management

  • Oversee the day-to-day financial operations of the School of Medicine, including budgeting and accounting.
  • Lead the preparation and monitoring of the School of Medicine’s operating and capital budgets in alignment with the University’s annual budget process.
  • Monitor financial performance throughout the fiscal year and provide regular variance analyses and reporting.
  • Ensure that all financial activities comply with University policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements, including LCME standards.
  • Maintain and continuously improve financial systems, processes, and internal controls to support efficiency, accuracy, and transparency.

Financial Analysis & Reporting

  • Prepare routine and ad hoc financial reports, analyses, and dashboards to support School of Medicine leadership decision-making.
  • Provide financial modeling and scenario analysis to support program planning, resource allocation, and operational decisions.
  • Lead financial data collection and reporting required for Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) accreditation compliance, regulatory submissions, and institutional reporting related to finances.
  • Assist in the financial tracking and reporting of externally funded programs and philanthropic resources, in coordination with the Office of Development and University finance.

Collaboration & Institutional Partnership

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the School of Medicine and the University’s Academic Finance Group and other central administrative offices.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director of Academic Budgets and Resource Planning to support financial planning, forecasting, and alignment with institutional priorities.
  • Partner with School of Medicine deans, department leaders, and administrative staff to support budget planning, financial monitoring, and resource management.
  • Provide guidance and training to School of Medicine units on financial processes, policies, and best practices.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary projects across health-focused academic programs.

Research & Program Financial Administration

  • In coordination with the University’s Grants and Contracts Office, support the School of Medicine’s modest research portfolio, including budgeting, tracking, and reporting.
  • Assist program leaders in developing budgets and monitoring financial performance for new and existing initiatives.

Contracts & Financial Compliance 

  • Provide financial review and analysis of proposed School of Medicine contracts and agreements (e.g., clinical affiliates, vendors, and programmatic partnerships) to ensure alignment with budgetary expectations and financial policies.
  • Maintain accurate records of contractual financial commitments and support tracking of associated revenues and expenses.
  • Ensure that invoices and payments to affiliates and vendors are processed accurately and in a timely manner by the appropriate units.
  • Monitor contract-related financial activity to ensure compliance with approved terms and assist in reporting as needed.
  • Serve as the primary contact for the financial components of affiliate clinical partner contracts when the School of Medicine participates in agreements shared across multiple Quinnipiac University health professions schools.

Operations & Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in School of Medicine operational planning and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with administrative leadership to support operational efficiency and resource optimization.
  • Serve as a liaison for administrative systems, including financial and operational platforms, in coordination with University partners.

Other Responsibilities

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean or designee.

 

Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field required.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in financial management, budgeting, and resource planning.
  • Strong technical expertise in accounting, financial analysis, and financial systems.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders and communicate complex financial information clearly.
  • Experience working in a complex organization; higher education or healthcare environment preferred.
