Quinnipiac University's School of Computing and Engineering seeks application for a full-time Lab Technician. This position supports laboratory operations in civil, mechanical and industrial engineering programs and provides safe operation of machine shop and lab equipment. In addition, the position supports students with their senior design projects and is responsible for the Makerspace: oversight of student workers (“superusers”), coordinate usage, maintain equipment and supplies. |

Responsibilities: |
- Provide machine shop support for junior and senior level classes as well as student projects and clubs.
- Maintain the Maker Space and help students and researchers from across the University with their fabrication projects
- Provide maintenance and support for teaching labs, including maintaining laboratory inventory, managing chemical waste disposal, end-of-year clean up and organization of labs, and maintenance of lab equipment
- Provide in-house machining to fabricate test specimens used for materials labs
- Provide support for summer research programs, SAE Baja design and fabrication activities, ASCE and AISC Student Steel Bridge Competition fabrication and construction activities, and other projects as needed
- Support student and faculty coursework and research as needed
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Education Requirements: |
- Associate's degree in Civil, construction or mechanical technology required
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering preferred
|
Qualifications: |
- 2-3 years of experience with machine shop tools and 3D printers
- Familiarity with capital equipment maintenance, including testing machines, robotics equipment, and fabrication tools
- Knowledge of chemical hygiene and waste disposal processes
- Ability to manage inventory and purchase consumables such as chemicals, circuit components, PPE, and materials for concrete and structures labs
- Skilled in setting up and organizing labs across various areas like concrete/structures, environmental, and geotechnical labs
- Experience in maintaining and repairing various lab and workshop equipment
- Strong organizational skills for managing lab materials, storage, and end-of-year cleanups
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with faculty, staff, and students.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds - physical demands exam required.
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and a commitment to diversity and inclusion
