Overview:

The Department of Economics in the College of Arts and Sciences at Quinnipiac University invites applications for an Assistant Professor with expertise at the intersection of Economics and Data Science. The position begins in August 2025. We are looking for a dynamic, student-centered educator who is deeply committed to excellence in teaching, research and professional engagement with the broader academic community. This role offers the opportunity to teach a diverse portfolio of courses, mentor students, engage in research and contribute to departmental initiatives. About the Department: 

 

The Department of Economics offers a BS in Economics and, along with the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, an interdisciplinary BS in Data Science. Students can also enroll in accelerated dual-degree programs that pair a BS in Economics with an MBA or a MS in Accounting, Business Analytics, or Journalism. In addition, the department provides foundational courses that serve students in the School of Business and other schools across the University.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach three courses per semester (9 credits), ranging from foundational to advanced courses in Economics. Preference will be given to individuals with the potential to teach courses that contribute to our expanding Data Science program.
  • Integrate engaging and inclusive pedagogies and technology to enhance student learning
  • Develop and maintain a research agenda that leads to scholarly presentations and publications. 
  • Advise and mentor students to help them achieve their academic and career goals.
  • Actively participate in service activities, including curricular development and revision, committee work, and other initiatives that advance the mission and values of the program, department, college, and university
  • Demonstrate a willingness to communicate information about their area of expertise with the public. 
  • Foster an inclusive environment and contribute to enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion at Quinnipiac University and within the Department. 

Education Requirements:

  • A PhD in Economics or similar area is required before position starts 

Qualifications:

  • Experience or a demonstrated commitment to working with diverse student populations and with the effective use of inclusive teaching strategies
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct and publish research 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

 Preferred qualifications:  

  • Demonstrated success in teaching, preferably at the college level
  • Experience with online instruction
  • Experience in curriculum design and development
  • Prior teaching experience in economics and data science related courses
  • Research program that bridges the field of Economics with Data Science and/or other related disciplines
  • Experience seeking and securing funding to support research or teaching.
