Responsibilities:
  • This position is a grant-paid position. 

  • The QU Advancing Diversity in Science (QUADS) program will engage high school students in Connecticut school districts in developing science skills and knowledge through a place-based science education experience.

  • QUADS will take place at the high school and at QU during the academic year and includes a weeklong on-campus summer experience.

  • Supported by secondary science teachers (Facilitators), QU students (Mentors) and QU faculty, students will engage in authentic sensemaking of a community-based phenomenon or solve a community problem, supported by intensive mentorship from secondary science teachers, QU faculty, and QU students (Mentors).

  • Equity-based science pedagogical principles (community-based phenomenon, multi-generational learning, cultural pedagogies, diverse sense-making, and place-based science education) will be used to design meaningful opportunities for students to both enhance and contextualize their college readiness and learn science while moving towards social justice

Qualifications:
  • All majors welcome! You do NOT need a science major or background
  • Good interpersonal skills; including working with high school students
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Responsible, reliable and committed to working towards equity and social justice
Hours of Position:

August – November 2024

  • 20 hours total professional learning workshops at QU
  • TBD

Sept. 2024- May 2025

  •  1-2.5 hours per week at school site engaging with students and teacher
  • Optional – 12 hours professional learning workshops at QU over 3 days

June 2025

  • 20-30 hours during 1 week Summer Experience at QU (Dates/Times TBD)
