The Department of Biological Sciences at Quinnipiac University invites applications for a 9.5-month tenure-track faculty position as a jointly appointed Assistant Professor in Biological Sciences and Environmental Science and Studies to begin August 2025. The successful applicant is expected to develop and teach undergraduate courses in environmental science and in plant biology, and to pursue an active research program that takes advantage of the University’s new Science, Innovation, Technology and Exploration building, particularly the greenhouse, scheduled to open in fall 2025. The SITE will provide state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities, which will include dedicated space available to support the research agenda of the successful candidate.
The successful candidate’s research areas may emphasize any aspect of plant biology, from the molecular to the organismal level. Relevant applications may include biotechnology, bioenergy, ethnobotany, medicinal plant biology, or bioinformatics.

The Department of Biological Sciences has 25 full-time faculty whose academic specialties span disciplines from Molecular Genetics through Ecology. Our student-centered Department has a strong sense of community, and the faculty are highly collaborative in both teaching and research. In addition, the College of Arts and Sciences offers 32 undergraduate minors, an MS in Molecular and Cell Biology, and the additional accelerated undergraduate/graduate programs: 3+1 and 4+1 BS/MS programs in Molecular and Cell Biology, 3+3 BA or BS/JD degree, 3+1 BA in Data Science/MS or MA in Communications, 3+1 BS in Data Science/MBA, 3+1 BS in Economics/MS in Accounting, Business Analytics, or Journalism or MBA, 3+1 BA in Theater/MBA or MA in Communications, and 3+2 BA or BS/MSW. Students can also complete a 5-year BA/BS and MA in Teaching in the following secondary education fields: Biology, English, History, and Math.

Responsibilities:
|
- Teach courses to meet departmental and programmatic needs (e.g. introductory environmental science, botany or upper-level electives in plant science). The standard teaching load for tenure-track faculty is 3 courses (9 credits) per semester
- Integrate engaging, inclusive, and innovative pedagogies and experiences to enhance student learning and engagement
- Actively participate in undergraduate and/or master’s student research training and mentoring
- Maintain an active research program that will engage students and lead to scholarly presentations and publications
- Demonstrate a willingness to communicate information about their area of expertise with the public
- Advise and mentor undergraduate or graduate students
- Foster an inclusive environment and contribute to enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion at Quinnipiac University and within the Department
- Engage in appropriate departmental, college, university, professional, and/or public service as relevant to the position.

Education Requirements:
|
- PhD in Plant Science/Biology or a closely related discipline
|
Qualifications:
|
- Demonstrated ability to conduct and publish research related to plant science
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team
- Ability to prepare and implement field and laboratory exercises
- Research program that utilizes opportunities afforded by the new greenhouse in the SITE building, and that supports student research
Desired Qualifications:
- Teaching experience at the college level
- Expertise in medicinal plants, plant physiology, ecology, genetics and/or ethnobotany
- Postdoctoral research experience
- Research program that lends itself to undergraduate or graduate student engagement
- Experience seeking funding to support research or teaching.
