Overview:

The Department of Biological Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences at Quinnipiac University is seeking a dynamic and student-centered individual for a 9.5-month tenure-track faculty position as an Assistant Professor in Biological Sciences to begin August 2025. The successful applicant is expected to teach undergraduate courses in human anatomy and physiology and to pursue an active research program.  Applicants from a broad variety of biological disciplines and research areas will be considered. Preference will be given to candidates who can include undergraduate and master's students in molecular or cellular-based research projects using non-mammalian models.

Primary teaching responsibilities will include Human Anatomy & Physiology lectures and laboratories with the possibility of other undergraduate or graduate courses based on the candidate's area of expertise and departmental needs. The multi-section Human A & P series, typically taken by students in the allied health and nursing programs, uses a combination of models, mammalian organs, plastinated human donors, online resources and virtual human dissection tables in the laboratory.

In addition to developing and sustaining an active research program, the position involves student advising and engaging in service that strengthens the program, department, college, and university community.

The Department of Biological Sciences has 25 full-time faculty whose academic specialties span disciplines from Molecular Genetics through Ecology. The Department offers a robust major and minor in Biology and a thriving graduate program in Molecular and Cell Biology that includes traditional and accelerated tracks. The University’s new 137,000 sq. ft. Science, Innovation, Technology and Exploration  building, opening in fall 2025, will provide state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities, including a cell culture suite for faculty in the sciences.  Our student-centered department has a strong sense of community, and our faculty are highly collaborative in both teaching and research. Students can also complete a 5-year BA/BS and MA in Teaching in the following secondary education fields: Biology, English, History, and Math.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the lecture and laboratory components of the two-semester Human Anatomy and Physiology course series, and other undergraduate or graduate courses as needed. The standard teaching load for tenure-track faculty is 3 courses (9 credits) per semester
  • Integrate engaging, inclusive, and innovative pedagogies and experiences to enhance student learning and engagement
  • Actively participate in undergraduate and/or master’s student research training and mentoring
  • Maintain an active research program that will engage students and lead to scholarly presentations and publications
  • Seek funding to support research or teaching when such support is available
  • Demonstrate a willingness to communicate information about their area of expertise with the public
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate or graduate students in biology
  • Foster an inclusive environment and contribute to enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion at Quinnipiac University and within the Department
  • Engage in appropriate departmental, college, university, professional, and/or public service as relevant to the position.

Education Requirements:

  • PhD in Biology or a closely related discipline at the time of appointment

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct and publish research.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.

  • Teaching experience at the college level, including human A & P lecture and/or lab
  • Research program that lends itself to undergraduate or graduate student engagement
  • Experience seeking funding to support research or teaching.
