Overview:

The Department of Physical Therapy (PT) at Quinnipiac University (QU) invites applications for full-time tenure/tenure-track faculty Director of Research position. This position will begin in July 2024 with rank and line (tenure or tenure-track) commensurate with experience. The Director of Research will oversee the scholarly endeavors of the PT Department and manage the broad operation of the associated laboratories including budgeting, supplies, research/capstones, and student learning laboratory activities (curricular and experiential) within the PT department. Through faculty mentorship, the Director of Research will ensure the growth and development of collaborative scholarly agenda’s that influence undergraduate and graduate DPT products. Teaching responsibilities include primary instruction of entry-level DPT students in areas such as evidence-based practice, research methods and statistics, and/or scientific writing.

This full-time 12-month faculty position will have a designated scholarly agenda and service responsibilities relative to the strategic plan of the PT Department and aligned with individual interests.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development of instructional materials related to the mechanics and control of human movement in the UG and Graduate curriculums.
  • Align and develop DPT Capstone sequence, within CAPTE requirements, to ensure valuable evidence-based practice curricular thread.
  • Oversee Capstone Coordinator to organize, schedule, and operationalize annual presentations and dissemination of projects.
  • Instruct and mentor UG and Graduate HSS & DPT research projects that utilize the Biomechanics and Motion Analysis Laboratories.
  • Coordinator and/or instruct UG and Graduate research related courses (examples: Biomechanics HSC440, Evidence in Practice PT685, Capstone PT666-767).
  • Support PT faculty in development and design of scholarly agendas within areas of focus for PT Department:
    • Basic Science/Clinical Outcomes
    • Scholarship of Teaching and Learning
    • Community Engagement
  • Communicate external funding opportunities to PT faculty which support scholarly agendas.
  • Cultivate and maintain partnerships with community, clinical, academic, and relevant organizational entities to further PT Department’s strategic plan in relation to faculty/student scholarly interests.
  • Contribute to the ongoing quality improvement of the DPT Program, Department of Physical Therapy, and School of Health Sciences through program evaluation
  • Meet teaching, advising, service, and scholarship expectations as described in the Faculty Handbook

Education Requirements:

  • All applicants must hold an academic terminal degree (PhD, DSc, ScD, EdD) and ABD will be considered with record of teaching, scholarship, and service, awarded by an institution that is accredited by a regional accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE).
    • Degree must be in one of the following areas: Kinesiology, Motor Control, Biomechanics, Research Methods and Statistics, or comparable.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must have planned/established scholarly record in the field of biomechanics, kinesiology or motor control, strong programming skills, and experience in the collection of data using motion analysis, EMG, and force plate data acquisition systems.

Experience must include:

  • Ability to teach in two or more of the following content/practice areas: Research Methods and Statistics, Evidence in Practice, Biomechanics, or Motion Analysis/EMG Data acquisition fundamentals.
  • Evidence of strong teaching skills and use of instructional and laboratory related technology.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Clinical doctorate degree (DPT) in physical therapy.
  • Licensed Physical Therapist (or eligible for licensure) in the State of Connecticut
  • Active member of APTA
  • Minimum of 5 years of documented experience as a physical therapist or other related healthcare field.
  • Demonstrated grant writing skills will be given preferential consideration.
  • Managerial experience as coordinator, director, manager, or similar administrative position
  • Mentorship of a capstone/research project(s) in a doctoral level program.
  • Commitment to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community
