The School of Health Sciences at Quinnipiac University invites applications for an Academic Advising position beginning in July of 2022. The academic advisor will provide advising and teaching for undergraduate students in the School of Health Sciences at Quinnipiac University. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive academic advising and individualized support for students and will assist them in developing an academic plan to achieve their career goals in health-related fields. They will also be responsible for teaching undergraduate students in the Health Science Studies program. This is a full-time, 12-month, administrator position.

Primary Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Maintains an assigned caseload of advisees and service as a resource for students exploring a careering in health-related fields
  • Advises students in the development of an academic plan of study
  • Works closely with other advisors, registrar, program directors, department chairs and the faculty to provide timely and accurate information to students on various health-related fields and course/degree options
  • Monitors progress and retention of assigned advisees
  • Refers students to the appropriate academic resources
  • Assists with advising of transfer/change of major students
  • Provides support for registration, first year student orientation, and admissions-related event
  • Supports students with the application process for graduate/professional school
  • Supports the University’s inclusive excellence mission

Primary Teaching Responsibilities:

  • Teach 12-18 credits per year for the undergraduate Health Science Studies program related to health professions and student success

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Counseling or an academic field directly related to the specific responsibilities
  • Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, education, counseling or a health-related field preferred


  • Minimum of one year of experience in advising or related academic functions within higher education
  • Previous experience advising students in higher education
  • Strong knowledge of health-related fields and the requirements for graduate/professional programs
  • Evidence of understanding the issues faced by college students
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work with and adapt to software and technology that are used in the support of university practices
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and a commitment to diversity and inclusion 
  • Member of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) or National Association for Advisors of Health Professions (NAAHP) preferred
