Overview: Quinnipiac University's School of Medicine seeks applications for an Associate Dean of Student Affairs (ASDA). The Associate Dean for Student Affairs engages students from matriculation through completion of the medical degree. Reporting directly to the dean of the school of medicine, the ADSA ensures access to student services, oversees student engagement and professional development. The Associate Dean for Student Affairs is responsible for oversight of the Office of Student Affairs in the School of Medicine.

Responsibilities:
  • WELLNESS:
  • Foster a safe, healthy, and supportive learning environment, including the planning for and monitoring of:
    • Student health services
    • Student counseling and mental health services
    • Mistreatment awareness, reporting, and mitigation
    • Trainings that foster diversity, equity, and inclusion
    • HIPAA training
    • Training to limit exposure to, report, and seek care for infectious agents and environmental hazards
    • Safety and Security Training, in compliance with state and federal statutes
  • ACADEMIC SUPPORT:
    • Monitor the academic progress of students, provide academic counseling, and refer to student services as required and necessary. Ensure that adequate resources are available through the school, university, and consultation. Oversee recurring series of workshops to strengthen students’ preparedness for NBME and USMLE exams.
  • STUDENT ENGAGEMENT:
    • Oversee student programming to foster student engagement and well-being, including
      • Big/Little Sibs program
      • Peer Advocates
      • Peer Mentors
      • Learning communities
      • Student government
      • Specialty Interest Groups and Co-curricular groups
  • ADVOCACY:
    • Serve as student advocate to address student concerns, as well as represent student interests as an ex officio member of
      • Course grading committees
      • Council on Curriculum Oversight
      • Admissions Committee
      • Professionalism Board
      • Promotions and Performance Standards Committee.
  • Oversee collection of student feedback through the AAMC Y2Q and GQ surveys and advocate for relevant changes.
  • ADVISING AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
    • Oversee system of academic coaches, career advisors, specialty advisors, big sibs, peer advocates, and peer mentors.
    • Collaborate with the office of medical education to enhance academic, social, and emotional development through curricular and co-curricular events and activities.
    • Recruit, train, and supervise faculty coaches.
    • Guide student-run peer initiatives.
    • Promote students’ leadership skills through student government, committee representation, engagement in interest groups and co-curricular groups.
    • Implement the AAMC Careers in Medicine program.
    • Foster dissemination of information regarding career selection.
    • Provide one-on-one academic counseling
    • Assist students in assembling credentials for residency application
    • Compose the Medical Student Performance Evaluation
    • Oversee the ERAS and NRMP processes, San Francisco Match, Urology Match, Military Match, Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program.
  • ENROLLMENT STATUS:
    • Provide guidance to students regarding excused absences, extended leaves of absence, enrichment years, and overall academic progress. Coordinate with bursar, registrar, academic technology, and financial aid to ensure that student needs are met.
  • EVENT PLANNING:
    • Oversee planning and execution of the recurring cycle of events including:
      • Matriculating student, Year 3 and Y4 orientations
      • White Coat Ceremony
      • Gold Humanism Honor Society Induction Ceremony
      • Residency fair
      • Social events
      • Commencement
  • COMPLIANCE AND ACCOUNTABILITY:
    • Ensure that the school is in compliance with all LCME standards that relate to medical students. Prepare and manage an annual budget to support the Student Affairs Office and its programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Education Requirements:
  • Candidate must hold an MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
Qualifications:
  • Must have at least 5-7 years of experience in medical education (including teaching and supervision of both medical students and/or residents).
  • The ideal candidate will have experience advising medical students; as well as, educational leadership as a course, clerkship director or related decanal experience
  • An understanding and knowledge of requirements and expectations of LCME accreditation standards and expectations related to student affairs
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and a commitment to diversity and inclusion
