Quinnipiac University's Center on Dispute Resolution in the School of Law seeks applicants for part-time, temporary position as Mediation Client Services Coordinator. The Connecticut Department of Housing (DOH) asked Quinnipiac Law’s Center on Dispute Resolution (CDR) to provide mediation services as part of DOH’s HUD-funded Homelessness Prevention Program. The Mediation Case Manager is responsible for working with the Associate Director to implement a 6-month pilot statewide housing mediation program to help address the looming homelessness crisis expected after CT’s current eviction moratorium expires.
This is a part-time, temporary position. This is a 19-hour per week position.
|About the Center on Dispute Resolution:
||Quinnipiac Law School's Center on Dispute Resolution (CDR) focuses on integrating the theory and practice of dispute resolution. Since 1998, the center has created opportunities for both dispute resolution professionals and law students to engage in mediation and dialogue and to attend trainings to develop knowledge of and skills in dispute resolution practices. Earlier this year, the Connecticut Department of Housing (DOH) invited CDR to provide mediation services for DOH’s HUD-funded Homelessness Prevention Program to help address the looming homelessness crisis expected after CT’s current eviction moratorium expires December 31, 2020.
|About the School of Law:
||The School of Law, located on the University’s North Haven graduate campus, offers a full program of basic and elective courses to both full-time and part-time students. Students wishing to gain extensive exposure to a given practice area may customize their course of study to earn certificates in one or more of eight concentrations (including tax law and intellectual property). - Work with and be supervised by the Associate Director
- Serve as co-mediator, or English-to-Spanish, Spanish-to-English translator, when needed
- Maintain the project’s mediation case records, including using, as needed, the Homeless Management Information System database used in CT; and
- Participate in 60-day, 120-day, and 365-day follow-ups of successful mediations
- High school diploma or GED required
- Associate's degree in Spanish or Latin American studies preferred
- Experience may substitute for some of the above education
- 2-3 years of related experience in recordkeeping, case management, and/or client services
- Strong communication skills
- Bilingual (fluency in English and Spanish required)
- Bicultural (preferred)
- Good teamworking skills
- Good problem-solving skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong computer skills
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and a commitment to diversity and inclusion
