Quinnipiac University's School of Medicine seeks applications for an Electives Director. The Electives Director has overall responsibility for administrative oversight of 4th-year electives in the curriculum of the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University. These include home and away electives, clinical and non-clinical electives, and custom designed electives. Electives range from two weeks to four weeks in length. The Electives Director will be responsible for ensuring clear communication on elective availability, curricula, and evaluation. The position will report to the Assistant Dean for Clinical Curriculum. At this time, the position reports to the Senior Associate Dean for Education.

The Electives Director will engage in Faculty Development to continue to build their knowledge and skills in medical education, educational scholarship, and educational management and leadership.

  • Oversee the design and implementation of the Netter elective curriculum for 4th-year students, including appropriate learning objectives, instructional strategies and assessment methods for all Netter home electives.
  • Collaborate with Assistant Dean for Faculty Engagement to contribute to the recruitment of new sites and educational opportunities for home electives.
  • Promotes the integration of 4th-year elective curricula with Years 1-3.
  • As needed, contributes to the design of 4th-year electives.
  • Serves on the CAS Clerkship Committee and other SOM committees as required.

Student Assessment

  • Ensure that student performance is assessed appropriately in alignment with elective learning objectives and Student Academic Policies.
  • Report elective grades to the registrar in a timely manner.
  • Identify students in academic difficulty and collaborate with the SADE and the ADSA to create a clear strategy for performance improvement.

Student Advising

  • Provide career advising and support to medical students.

Faculty Oversight

  • Ensure that elective faculty are engaged with the Netter educational mission, regularly updated on any changes related to electives, and compliant with Netter’s Student Academic Policies in implementation of all electives.
  • Encourage elective faculty members to engage in Netter Faculty Development initiatives.

Program Evaluation

  • Oversee the evaluations of all electives (home and away), ensuring continuous quality improvement for home electives.
  • Ensures that all electives occur in a positive educational learning environment where students and faculty interact in a professional, ethical, safe and respectful climate.


  • Ensure electives comply with LCME accreditation standards and provide necessary documents and information in support of LCME accreditation visits.
  • Monitor all elective policies and develop additional policies as needed to present to the Committee on Curriculum Oversight.
Education Requirements:
  • MD or DO degree
  • Minimum of five years’ experience teaching in a medical education setting with evidence of effective skills in leadership and management

  • Knowledge of medical education theories and practices

  • Excellent communication skills with all stakeholders

  • Outstanding organizational skills including ability to manage self and others

  • A collaborative leadership style with strong team building skills

  • Ability to work across disciplines and institutions

  • Commitment to on-going professional development in medical education

  • Evidence of potential for innovation in medical education and scholarship is also desired

  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and a commitment to diversity and inclusion
